What are the requirements for becoming a Massage Therapist?
The requirements for becoming a Massage Therapist vary from state to state, city to city, and country to country.
In North Carolina, a license from the North Carolina Board of Massage & Bodywork Therapy (NCBMBT) is required in addition to any local licensing. You are then permited and required to use the professional title Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist.
Basic requirements toward licensure include:
1. Attending a Board Approved School.
2. Passing an approved licensing exam.
The school prepares you for the licensing requirements by providing a quality career program that meets and exceeds the minimum standard set forth by the State. Additionally, the school prepares the graduate to successfully pass an approved licensing exam.
Is the school a Board Approved School?
Yes. The school is a Board Approved School by the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy (NCBMBT).
Additionally, the school is a Florida Board of Massage Therapy Approved School (FBMT). This means a Graduate of the school who has completed the elective courses related to the State of Florida can easily apply for licensure in Florida.
Although the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodyworkers (NCBTMB) does not approve massage schools offering primary massage training, the NCBTMB does recognize the school as a State Board Approved School and Graduates of the school are eligible to take the National Certification Exam (NCE) and/or National State Licensing Exam (NSLE) toward becoming a Nationally Certified Therapeutic Massage and Bodyworker.
The Healing Arts and Massage School, LLC is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education Approved Provider. Provider Number 331623-00.
What classes are a part of the Massage Therapist training program?
The school offers a Holistic Massage Therapist Career Program. The program not only consists of massage training along with anatomy, physiology and pathology. The program also covers Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Herbs, Nutrition, Reiki, Eastern modalities such as acupressure and much more.
How many Students are in a class?
Typically class size ranges from 6-10 students in a Career Program. The student has access to greater individualized attention. This provides quality for the students rather than quantity for the school. We are also able to provide you with the opportunity to study within a real live professional setting with licensed therapists. Ten (10) is the maximum number of students enrolled in a Career Program.
What are the intructors' qualifications?
Instructors are licensed professionals from the healthcare field with existing professionsal practices. Instructors have a minumum of 2 years experience in their field of instruction. The Head Instructor and Program Director has 20 years experience in Massage and Bodywork Therapy and is also a Naturopathic Doctor.
Additional instructors include a Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant and Massage Therapist with 16 years experience; a Massage & Bodywork Therpist with 6 years of experience; and a Chiropractor.
Guest instructors have similar qualifications.
How long does it take to complete the Career Program?
The program takes 7-1/2 to 8-1/2 months to complete. The advanced student with transfer credit and/or above average dedication can complete the program in considerably less time.
There is no time-limit to complete the program. Each student completes the program on an individual basis and may take as little or as much time to complete the program requirements as is necessary.
The school offers both a day-time schedule and an evenening schedule to complete the Holistic Massage Therapist 600-hour Career Program. The school applies a schedule that looks like a part-time schedule in a way that enables the student to complete the program as if you were going to school full time. This provides you with the opportunity to maintain work, family and/or other obligations.
For the day-time schedule, classes are held Tuesdays and Thursday from 9:30am-6:30pm and alternating weekends from 1-6pm for the first 4 months of the program. Four of the alternating weekends include morning classes. The later 3-4 months of the program classes are held just Tuesday and Thursday with 1 Saturday and a Saturday/Sunday in that period. For the evening schedule, classes are held Mondays and Wednesday from 6-10:30pm; Tuesday 6-9pm; Thursday 6-9pm and alternating weekends from 1-6pm for the first 4 months of the program. Does the school offer Student Services?
Yes, Student Services are available.
The school provides academic and practical advising to all students to ensure satisfactory progress through their program. Special attention is given to those students that need additional assistance within reason. Academic and practical tutoring is always available to students. Life-time career assistance for graduates is provided free of charge and discounts for products, supplies and services (i.e. student massage and continued education) are provided to graduates through the Alumni Association. The school does not provide housing, transportation or childcare for students.
Does the school offer Financial Aid?

The school provides a number of options to choose from including full payment benefits (grant of $1,320), payment plans without interest, or educational loans with low monthly payments extended over a longer period of time.
