Pregnancy Massage

Caring for the Expecting Mother and More

Pre/Post-Natal Services

Prenatal Massage (Pregnancy Massage) is an important part of pregnancy.  Many of the common conditions expecting mothers experience will benefit from prenatal massage.  Lower back pain, muscle spasm, swelling, fatigue and the general stress associated with pregnancy are indications for massage.

Pregnancy Massage is different from the typical massage practiced by many massage therapist.  Although prenatal / pregnancy massage is safe for most healthy expecting mothers, the typical mainstream massage is potentially unsafe and usually contraindicated during pregnancy.  The recommendations for receiving prenatal massage during pregnancy may greatly vary from one expecting mother to another; and, may change for an individual women if new conditions develop as a result of the pregnancy.

When planning to incorporate massage during pregnancy it is important to receive massage from a qualified professional with specific training  in Prenatal / Pregnancy Massage.  Additionally, consult a physician and encourage communication between healthcare professionals if necessary to review specific health conditions and any techniques that are to be utilized.  Be sure to understand that conditions are rapidly changing during pregnancy and frequent adjustments in the treatment plan are to be expected for the expecting mother to safely receive massage.

PREGNANCY MASSAGE TREATMENT

The Prenatal / Pregnancy Massage Treatment is a dynamic interaction between client and therapist.  Each woman innately knows her limitations, tolerences and comforts during pregnancy.  The trained professional is familar with recommended positioning for massage, appropriate drapping and skilled in the massage techniques that can be safely applied throughout the pregnancy.  Positioning, drapping and techniques will be modified as the expecting mother progresses through the trimesters.  Communication is an important part of the dynamic client/therapist relationship.

During the treatment specially designed bolsters (pillows) are utilized to comfortablly position and support the body.  Special drapping techniques are incorporated to enhance comfort and maintain appropriate physical boundaries.  It's important to realize that Prenatal / Pregnancy Massage can be performed with the expecting mother fully clothed if necessary.

POSTNATAL MASSAGE AFTER PREGNANCY

Postnatal Massage is just as important as Prenatal / Pregnancy Massage.  Treatments help the new mother recover from the physical, mental and emotional demands of pregnancy, childbirth and caring for the new member of the family.
